Kara Hornbuckle

Entrepreneur/Philanthropist

Kara Hornbuckle is a native of Huntington, WV. She grew up on Doulton Avenue and attended Spring Hill Elementary School, Cammack Middle School and Huntington High School, graduating with high honors in 2009. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology from Marshall University in 2013. While attending Marshall she began working at Glenn’s Sporting Goods. She worked at Glenn’s for eight years working her way up to the Team Sales Department.

Kara began working on her Master’s Degree at Marshall until being diagnosed with end-stage renal failure leading to life saving dialysis treatment until in 2019 when she was blessed to receive a kidney from her loving brother. Post transplant, Kara began partnering with and advocating for the National Kidney Foundation and the Donate Life organization.

All while battling severe illness Kara continued to be a very active member of Board of Directors of Branches Domestic Violence Shelter, the Mayor’s Advisory Committee for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America , Board of Directors for the Fairfield Community Development Corporation. She spends time volunteering at Spring Hill Elementary School. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Kara enjoys being able to give back to her community and a love for politics has fueled her participation and leadership role in political campaigns.
Kara is currently exploring entrepreneurship through catering events as an independent contractor.

In all Kara does, big or small, she finds joy in being able to give back to the city that has given much to her.
