Christy Hughes
A native Huntingtonian, Christy received her formal education in the Cabell County Public Schools system. After the original Huntington High closed, her senior class was the first to graduate as a Huntington High School Highlander. She pursued further education at Marshall University and Mountwest Community and Technical College. While in school, Christy demonstrate her athletic prowess, as a standout in track, volleyball, and basketball. Additionally, she was selected to participate in Operation Best, an organization whose objectives include challenging participants to strive for excellence in scholarship, citizenship, and community involvement. Participants also provided role modeling and mentoring to younger children in their circle of association. After living and working in Columbus, Ohio for a while, Christy returned to Huntington. Having grown up in a single parent home she has an urgent desire to pour back into the youth in our community. As an indication of her appreciation and dedication to her family, she has served a compassionate caretaker to several family members, most notably her now deceased mother. Ms. Hughes currently serves as a Teacher Assistant at Huntington High School. Furthering her commitment to the development of our young people, she coaches cheerleading, track, and volleyball. She has also seized the opportunity to mentor several current and former students at Huntington High School.
A dedicated member of Full Gospel Assembly, Ms. Hughes is happily engaged in her church ministries where she currently serves as president of the Women’s Ministry, and has served in other roles including as Sunday School teacher, After-School instructor, Altar Worker, Wedding Consultant, and member of the choir and Usher Board, and the Culinary Group.
