Arleen Gilliam
Arleen Fain Gilliam was born on January 2, 1949, in Huntington, West Virginia, As a student at Huntington High School, Arleen excelled academically. She attended West Virginia’s’ Girls State and won the International Nickel College Scholarship. After graduation, she garnered her B.A. from Skidmore College in 1970 and her MBA in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1976.
Her career includes being a teacher at the St. Anne Institute, Albany, New York, from 1970-1972; career counselor, Williams College, Williamstown, Massachusetts, 1972-1974; budget analyst, Congressional Budget Office, Washington, 1976-1977; executive assistant to Assistant Secretary of Labor, United States Department of Labor, Washington, 1977-1981; assistant director, Social Security Department, American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, Washington, 1981-1984; director budget, planning and personnel policy, American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, Washington, 1984-1996; assistant to president, executive branch relations, American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, Washington, since 1996, and as trustee for the pension plan of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, Washington, 1988-1996. Her accomplishments include being listed as a noteworthy Labor Union Administrator & Finance Executive by Marquis Who’s Who, serving on the Board of Governors for Sloan School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1989-1995, and on the Board of Directors for Fairfax County (Virginia) Park Authority Board from 1991-1993. Arleen currently resides in Reston, VA. Her interests include playing classical piano, reading fiction, and solving cryptograms.
