Joyce Felder
Joyce Felder was born in Holden, West Virginia. She moved to Huntington in 1965. She devoted her life to her community and its children. She supported the youth football league as a seamstress, volunteering countless hours each ear sewing uniforms for the cheerleading squads. She participated in fundraising events to enable children to travel to away games and other competitions.
Joyce served her church – Antioch Missionary Baptist church – in multiple capacities – the choir, as an usher and even lending her seamstress skills to design choir robes for the members.
Her greatest contribution to the community was providing a safe haven for children as a Foster Care Provider. For over twenty years she opened her home and her heart to over 70 children. It didn’t matter the age, gender, or ethnicity, it only mattered that they needed refuge or respite care. Posthumously, in 2018 Joyce Felder was recognized by Pressley Ridge with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
