Dr. Georgiana Logan

Educator

Dr. Georgina Logan is a Flint, Michigan native and received her Ph.D. in Health Education and Health Promotion from The University of Alabama, a Master’s degree in Health Education from The University of Michigan, and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from The University of Michigan. Dr. Logan is currently a tenured Associate Professor in the College of Health Professions (Undergraduate Health Science program and Graduate Public Health program) and a Research Associate within the Minority Health Institute at Marshall University. Additionally, she is the Director of the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program in the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Dr. Logan is a thought-provoking educator, a renowned professional development strategist, and a mentor. Her areas of research include health disparities, health equity, men’s health, and justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). She serves on several academic, state, and national committees. Those committees include Marshall University’s (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Wizard Team, Interprofessional Education Committee, Health Science Society Undergraduate Faculty Advisor, and the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) programs. She also serves on several state-level committees (WV Take Back Our Health Steering Committee and the WV HEAT Team). Nationally, she serves on the following American Public Health Association (APHA) committees (Men’s Health Caucus and the Committee on Health Equity).
Dr. Logan has received numerous awards in her tenure at Marshall, including the 2020 Small Communities, Big Solutions Power of Performance Award for Changing Lives, the 2020 Marshall University Inspiring Woman (EmpoWer) Award, and the 2020 Marshall University Outstanding Service Award (Health Science Society- Faculty Advisor), the Inaugural 2021 Marshall University Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Faculty Award, the 2021 Marshall University Pickens Queen Teaching Award, a 2021 John Marshall Leadership Fellow, the 2022 Most Valuable Professor Award from Marshall University Athletics, the 2023 Most Improved Student Organization Award (Health Science Society- Faculty Advisor), the 2023 Southside Elementary Black History Month Quilt Patch Recipient, and the 2023 Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Faculty Institutional Award, making her the first faculty member at Marshall to receive this award.

Dr. Logan has made several contributions to the Fairfield Community and City of Huntington including hosting the first WV Men’s Health Fair and the J.W. Scott Community Center/Positive People Association in 2022. She has received grant funding to address hypertension and diabetes among African American boys and men in Huntington. She has participated in community revitalization efforts through neighborhood cleanups and donated scholarship monies to assist low-income and first-generation college students. Dr. Logan has participated in many community initiatives with the Huntington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority INC., including collecting and donating blankets/coats for individuals experiencing homelessness, Trunk-or-Treat/Oral Health events for Fairfield youth, Breast Cancer Awareness events, and Go RED for Women.

Dr. Logan is a proud member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society for Faculty and the Huntington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, INC. Dr. Logan owns and operates two businesses, including The MenÂ’s Health Equity Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and OnAMission Consulting LLC.
