Cora A. Westmoreland
Cora Westmoreland is a lifelong Huntingtonian. She attended Buffington and Simms Elementary schools, Oley Jr. High, and graduated from Huntington High School in 1977. After graduation she enrolled in the Huntington Junior Business of College, earning certificates in IBM Key Punch and Clerk Typist. She worked for Henderson, Henderson, & Redd Law Firm as a legal secretary and worked with several other attorneys before being hired at Marshall University. There, she worked in Student Affairs, the School of Medicine, Admissions and the Registrar’s Offices before serving as the Executive Assistant to Marshall University’s Chief Legal Counsel, a position she currently holds.
She holds an Associates Degree in Applied Science with emphasis in Office Technology, a B.A. in Applied Science with an emphasis in Organizational Studies, and a M.A. in Leadership Studies with an emphasis in non-Profit organizations. Cora has also been a very active volunteer in the community, working with the Salt of the World Ministry in the women’s recovery house, a program that provides housing, bible study programs and helps women in recovery to get a fresh start in their lives. Cora has been working in this recovery program for the past 12 years using her administration skills and spiritual direction to service this program. She is a member of the Unity in the Community Choir, which brings choir members from different churches in the community together to make musical/spiritual presentations in the community that will uplift and revitalize anyone in attendance.
In the early days of the Douglass-Cammack Football league when it was established, Cora served on the fundraising committee to help raise funds for new uniforms forthe players and cheerleaders
Cora is very active in her church. She leads the Prayer Ministry at New Life Church, is active in the choir, and teaches devotionals in the Café Girlfriend’s community group. One of her favorite hobbies is crocheting and was a member of a group of women, currently inactive due to the pandemic, who made items for the Veteran’s Home and Lily’s Place. She is hoping to restart the group in the near future.
She describes herself as a compassionate person who likes to help others as much as she can.
