Darnell Wright

Darnell Wright is a Huntington native and starting offensive tackle for the NFL’s Chicago Bears.

Wright was born in 2001 and raised in Huntington. He was a dominant player in the Beverly Hills Youth Football League and excelled in football, basketball and track and field while attending Huntington High School. On the gridiron for the Highlanders, Wright was twice a first-team Class AAA all-state selection and won the Stydahar Award as a junior in 2017 as the state’s top interior lineman.

He was one of the most-decorated football recruits to ever come out of West Virginia when he signed with the University of Tennessee as a five-star prospect in 2019. As a freshman for the Volunteers, Wright started seven games — five at right tackle and a pair at right guard. His performances were good enough to warrant a selection on the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team in 2019. By his senior season in 2022, Wright was projected as a top NFL prospect. He was named first-team All-SEC for his performance as a senior.

The Chicago Bears selected Wright with the 10th pick in the first round of the the 2023 NFL Draft.
