Gwyndolyn Pierson

Spring Hill Elementary Principal

Gwyndolyn Crews Pierson has served as a teacher and principal of Spring Hill Elementary in Huntington for nearly three decades.

Pierson was raised in London, West Virginia, and graduated from DuPont High School in Belle West Virginia in 1986. She received her undergraduate degree from Marshall University in elementary education specializing in special education. She also received a master’s degree in special education with an emphasis on learning disabilities. She later obtained her principalship degree at Marshall University.

While at Marshall, Pierson served as president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Beta Kappa. She also was nominated and listed in Who’s Who Among American College and University Students. She served as a mentor and tutor for students at Spring Hill Elementary, where she developed a love for teaching and working with the children in the Fairfield community.

Before becoming principal at Spring Hill, she taught special education, first and second grade at the school. She has worked there for 27 years.

Pierson also is active in her church and community. In 2022, she received her minister’s certificate from the Potter’s House School of Ministry in Dallas, Texas, under the leadership of Bishop T.D. Jakes. She has served as a mentor and Bible teacher to women in recovery at The Shepherd’s House in Huntington. Along with her husband John, she serves as a deacon and Children’s Church minister at The Glorious Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Gary Brydie in Huntington.
