Beverly Murrell


Beverly Murrell is a longtime educator who has influenced countless students’ lives.

She was born and raised in McDowell County and graduated from Gary High School in 1969. She enrolled at Marshall University and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business education.

Murrell worked at Tri-State OIC (Opportunities Industrialization Center) for 12 years. While there, she implemented a Multi-Office program. She also worked 20 years at Marshall Community College teaching computer classes and simultaneously worked for Cabell County Schools. She retired in 2013 after 35 years of service, but she continues to serve as a substitute teacher.

Murrell is a charter member of Theta Omega Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Marshall University and a charter member of the Huntington Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. She also is a member of the Huntington Links, Inc., and Huntington Area League of Women Voters. She has been honored by Full Gospel Assembly Church as an educational leader.

For the past 5 years, Murrell has been active in legislative affairs in the Huntington area. She describes this as her passion, and says helping people stay informed on the affairs of the state and country are vital.
