Athlete/NFL Hall of Fame/Sports Analyst

Randy Moss grew up in Rand, West Virginia, and attended DuPont High School, where he played and excelled in football, basketball and track.

After briefly attending Notre Dame and Florida State universities, Moss came to Marshall in 1966 and had an impressive career for the Thundering Herd football team. He won the Fred Biletnikoff Award and was a finalist for the 1997 Heisman Trophy. He skipped his junior and senior years at Marshall and entered the NFL Draft in 1998. He was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings and played with the team until he was traded in 2005 to the Oakland Raiders. In 2007, Moss was traded to the New England Patriots, where he set the single-season record for touchdown receptions (23 in 2007). In October 2010, Moss returned to the Vikings in a trade from the Patriots and ended his career with the Tennessee Titans and, lastly, the San Francisco 49ers.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most talented wide receivers of all-time, Moss also holds the NFL single-season touchdown reception record for a rookie (17 in 1998) and is second on the NFL all-time regular season touchdown reception list with 156. Moss was known for his prowess in securing contested catches and the phrase, “You got Mossed,” has entered football vernacular.

After his retirement, Moss began working for ESPN as a studio analyst for its Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night NFL Countdown programs. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2024.
