Roy Goines

Roy Goines attended Barnett Elementary School where he was the spelling champion in 1949. He graduated from Douglass High School as class valedictorian in 1955.

Goines was the first black football player to attend Marshall University. He graduated in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He served as an officer in the U. S. Army from 1960-68. Goines received his MBA from the University of Detroit in 1967 and, for the next 20 years, worked as a business manager at the Ford Motor Company in Detroit.

Goines moved to California and was an adjunct professor at the University of Lavern from 1989-2015. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and returns to Huntington to visit his family and to attend Douglass High and Marshall University reunions and homecoming events.
