Effie Carter-Grear
Effie Carter Grear was born in Huntington, WV and attended and graduated from Douglass High School. She continued her education at WV State College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music. She continued her education at Ohio State University where she earned her Master’s degree in 1955 and in 1976 received her Ph.D. in Education
She taught at the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical High School in Tallahassee from 1948 – 1951, Smith -Brown High School from 1951- 1956. She was band director at Lake Shore High School in Belle Glade, Florida 1956-1960, dean of girls 1960 1966, assistant principal 1966-1970. Assistant principal of Glades Central High School and principal in 1976.
She received numerous awards and was a member of many organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She is the author of Up from the Muck, true stories of the lives of residents and several former students from Belle Glade, Florida. She was listed as a noteworthy educational administrator by Marquis Who’s Who. She was Instrumental in helping many students go on to become professionals – many of them in the NFL.
