Troy Brown

Athlete/3-time Super bowl champion/NFL Coach

Troy Brown was a standout wide receiver for Marshall University and the New England Patriots.

A native of Barnwell, South Carolina, Brown graduated from Blackville-Hild High School. He attended Lees McRae College before transferring to Marshall. before coming to Marshall University. Even though he was discouraged from playing football because of weight and height, Brown still lettered in football and track and field.

Brown was drafted by the New England Patriots in the eighth round of the  1993 NFL Draft but was not signed to play until 1994. He played with the Patriots for 15 seasons until his retirement in 2008. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2001 and was a member of the Patriots’ first three Super Bowl-winning teams.

Brown was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2020, Brown rejoined the Patriots as an offensive assistant.

A portion of WV Route 10 is named Troy Brown Way. Brown also is known locally for co-developing the Bartrum-Brown Football camp from 2001 to 2011.
