Dorsey Bass

Musician

Dorsey Bass was a lifelong resident of Huntington.  After graduating from Huntington High School, he served in the Vietnam War and received a purple heart after being wounded.  Dorsey was recognized locally and nationally for his achievements with music, mentorship and commitment to service. He hosted the Marshall University WMUL Gospel music station for over 16 years and worked with the United States Postal Service until his retirement. .Dorsey would travel to churches every single Sunday to support them, even after a long day supporting his own church.  He served as a father-figure to many young men in the community.  Nobody could play a Hammond B3 organ like him.  He inspired many musicians in West Virginia and throughout the United States and no matter where he played, he always made sure everyone knew he was from Huntington, WV.
