Doris Allen Ph.D

Community Activist

Doris H. Allen was a dedicated civil rights activist and leader in the Fairfield community.

Upon her arrival to Huntington from Harrisonburg, Virginia, Allen was active with the Tri-State AIDS Task Force, the A.D. Lewis Community Center and the Marshall University Minority Students Program.

She received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from James Madison University in Virginia and was the author of two self-published books entitled, “The Way It Was, Not The Way It Is” and “Jim Crow.”

Many Huntingtonians remember her best for her activism and her famous lemon cake.
