Lawrence Qualls

Entrepenuer

Lawrence Qualls was born in Pomeroy Ohio in 1889 and moved to Huntington with his wife Kathrine Still Qualls in 1920. I can remember him telling me if you had a gold tooth and a horse and buggie you were living good. He had a Club in Huntington called the green spot, where several artist like Author Prysock, and the Ink spots visited as they traveled the chittering circuit back in the day. He sponsored a minor team in the Negro league. Later in life he became a Cabell County Sheriff, opened a grocery store, restaurant and pool hall on 13th Steet and 7th ave. Made the best hamburgers in Huntington at the time. Many generations of our family was raised in Huntington and several generations still reside there.
